Hydrothermal Pretreatment of Water-Extracted and Aqueous Ethanol-Extracted Quinoa Stalks for Enzymatic Saccharification of Cellulose

چکیده

Auto-catalyzed hydrothermal pretreatment (A-HTP) and sulfuric-acid-catalyzed (SA-HTP) were applied to quinoa stalks in order reduce their recalcitrance towards enzymatic saccharification. Prior pretreatment, extracted with either water or a 50:50 (v/v) ethanol–water mixture for removing saponins. Extraction aqueous ethanol, respectively, led removal of 52 75% (w/w) the saponins contained raw material. Preliminary extraction allowed lower overall severity during it an increase glucan recovery pretreated solids (above 90%) compared that non-extracted (73–74%). Furthermore, preliminary resulted enhanced hydrolysis hemicelluloses by-product formation pretreatment. The enhancement by pre-extraction was more noticeable SA-HTP than A-HTP. As result susceptibility remarkably improved, conversion values higher pre-extracted materials (up 83%) ones (64–69%). Higher achieved ethanol-extracted (72–83%) water-extracted material (65–74%).

Ethanol Organosolv Pretreatment of Bamboo for Efficient Enzymatic Saccharification

Bamboo is a potential lignocellulosic biomass for the production of bioethanol because of its high cellulose and hemicelluloses content. In this research, ethanol organosolv pretreatment with dilute sulfuric acid as the catalyst was studied in order to enhance enzymatic saccharification of moso bamboo. The addition of 2% (w/w bamboo) dilute sulfuric acid in 75% ethanol had a particularly strong...

Efficient Enzymatic in Situ Saccharification of Cellulose in Aqueous-ionic Liquid Media by Microwave Pretreatment

Several representative ionic liquids (ILs) were synthesized, and [Emim]OAc was chosen as environment-friendly solvent for enzymatic in situ saccharification in view of its biocompatibility with both natural and microcrystalline cellulose, as well as its enzymatic activity. With the microwave pretreatment of natural and microcrystalline cellulose, directly enhancing the in situ enzymatic sacchar...

Ball Milling Pretreatment of Bagasse for Ethanol Production by Enzymatic Saccharification and Fermentation

Enzymatic saccharification (Hydrolysis) is one of the technologies to hydrolyze lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, Bangladeshi bagasse is used as feedstock for enzymatic saccharification and ethanol fermentation. Cutter mill and Mechano-chemical treatment (Ball mill) are used for pretreatment. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of substrate concentration, pretrea...

Enhancing Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Cellulose by Ultrasonic Pretreatment

Slurries of rice-straw cellulose (obtained by delignification and removal of hemicelluloses from the powdered raw material) were subjected to ultrasonic waves at different intensities for various times (constant temperature). Susceptibility of the samples to cellulose-hydrolysis increased initially with pretreatment time, reaching a maximum or a constant level thereafter. Maximum glucose yi...

Analysis of Solid and Aqueous Phase Products from Hydrothermal Carbonization of Whole and Lipid-Extracted Algae

Microalgae have tremendous potential as a feedstock for production of liquid biofuels, particularly biodiesel fuel via transesterification of algal lipids. However, biodiesel production results in significant amounts of algal residues, or “lipid extracted algae” (LEA). Suitable utilization of the LEA residue will improve the economics of algal biodiesel. In the present study, we evaluate the hy...
